We're John and Linda and we love to paint!  Not walls and houses, per se, but yes, walls and houses too!  And floors, ceilings, barns, silos, billboards, storefronts, restrooms, airplane hangars, and dance halls Anything that requires an extra touch of artistic embellishment that only a mural can provide.

About Commissioning Murals
Pricing guidelines & other practical considerations

Like any other art job, mural work is minimally a two stage process: design and implementation. The former can be as easy or as complicated as you like, but if you have a fairly good idea of what imagery you're looking for then it can be as simple as you showing us a few photos followed by our returning to you a few sketches, then the selection of colors and on to stage two.  If extended design services are needed these will be billed at $35 per hour.

The implementation, the actual painting of the mural (including prep and cleanup), will typically run $60 per hour (total for both artists) with a $10 per hour surcharge for ceiling work and the same again for anything that requires use of a ladder.  Before we begin, however, we will set a maximum price based on a combination of artistic complexity and square footage — typically $10 per square foot for the relatively simple to $20 per square foot more detailed and/or complex compositions.

Paints and other materials vary by the job, and as we need to purchase these before we get can started, we will usually ask for a small advance up front (rarely over $100).

We live in Grants Pass, but for a day's work we will travel anywhere in the Rogue Valley — beyond this will require a transportation surcharge, and to travel much beyond will require a per diem to cover lodging, dining and incidentals.

Mural-like paintings can also be rendered on ultra-large canvas panels, which can be framed and stretched in almost any size or shape imaginable, and when working in the studio our rates are approximately half of what we charge to paint on location!  Here is an example, approximately four feet by seven on an eight-sided (emerald cut) beveled canvas, about three inches deep. The subject is the main water feature at Evergreen Park in Grants Pass, right beside the Taprock Grill and the Hellsgate Jetboat docks.  Incidentally, this painting is still available, and can be delivered and installed anywhere in the Rogue Valley for $800, which may seem high after what I just said, but this was my own idea and inspiration is half of the battle. Partner with me and between your ideas and my brush, I can paint something comparable for around $500, which would include a similarly crafted canvas, or around $400 on a simple rectangular frame. Also, for do-it-yourselfers, I can create a similar custom canvas with only a primer of white gesso for about $150!
