Every Memorial Day in Grants Pass since
1959 we've had the "Boatnik Celebration" featuring whitewater hydroplane
jet boat racing tournaments, a carnival, a parade, and other delights.
This is what the former looked like (I couldn't paint fast enough so
first I took a photo...) as two raceboats ripped through the relatively
smooth stretch of the Rogue River between Shan Creek and Griffin Park.
This is another of those bizarre
masterpieces rendered without brushwork, the entire painting (excepting
the signature) being rendered with nothing other than palette knives.
Most of the painting is rather thick.
Special thanks to
Grants Pass Art Supply
& Gamblin's Neo Megilp a remarkably thick transparent medium for oil painting!
